Teen/Adult CanSkate - Ages 12+
CanSkate is the Skate Canada nationally acclaimed learn-to-skate program that teaches a comprehensive series of balance, control, and agility skills. This program is for skaters who want to develop the strong fundamental skating skills for hockey, figure skating, speed skating, ringette, or recreational skating.
The 50 minute sessions consist of the following:
- 10 minute full-ice warmup consisting of the use of all major muscle groups to promote flexibility and full range of motion
- 30 minutes of group instruction for learning and practicing new skills with our Skate Canada certified professional coaches and trained Program Assistants (Coach to skater of 1:10 with additional Program Assistants)
- 10 minute full-ice group activity and cooldown
The CanSkate program is organized into three Fundamental areas and divided into six stages of learning. Skaters will rotate between stations for instruction of all three fundamentals:
- Balance: Focus on forward skills, pushing technique and edges.
- Control: Focus on backward skills, stopping and speed elements.
- Agility: Focus on turning and jumping skills.
Skaters earn ribbons and badges as they succeed through the program and will receive a report card outlining their progress.
*As per Skate Canada's Helmet Use Policy, all skaters working on STAGE 5 and below, MUST wear a CSA approved hockey helmet*
