PreCanskate - Ages 3 to 4
Our PreCanSkate program is for younger children who are looking to learn to skate. The Skate Canada CanSkate program is nationally regulated and designed to teach basic skating skills for beginners. Canskate - Ages 5 Years and Older
CanSkate is the Skate Canada nationally acclaimed learn-to-skate program that teaches a comprehensive series of balance, control, and agility skills. This 50 minute program is for skaters who want to develop the strong fundamental skating skills for hockey, figure skating, speed skating, ringette, or recreational skating. Skaters earn ribbons and badges as they succeed through the program and will receive a report card outlining their progress. Click here for more information.
Introduction to Figure Skating
Intro to Figure Skating introduces skaters to skills specific to the sport of figure skating. Skaters will have the opportunity to learn the basics of Skills, Ice Dance, and Freeskate including edge and turn development, basic jumps and spins, musicality, and carriage. Most skaters in this program are working on their Canskate badges or beginning their STAR 1 Skating level. Click here for more information.
STAR 1 - 4 (formerly Junior)
Skaters at this level will begin in the Skate Canada assessment stream from STAR 1 to GOLD. They will continue to progress in the disciplines of Freeskate, Skills, and Dance as well as introducing Synchronized skating. Opportunities will also come available to skaters to compete with a choreographed solo in local competitions through the STAR 1-4 Skate Ontario Series. Click here for more information.
STAR 4+ (formerly Senior)
The NHSC STAR 4+ (formerly Senior) program focuses on perseverance and excellence through more advanced skills in the sport of figure skating. Skaters will continue to work through the Skate Canada assessment stream from STAR 1 to GOLD. They will continue to progress in the disciplines of Freeskate, Skills, Dance, Synchro, and Artistic skating. Power Skating
Designed to progress and perfect skating techniques for both hockey and ringette players; Power Skating provides skaters with a program focused on skating skills to transfer to practices and games.
